The crossings of the Channel are doubtless down to organised criminal gangs as the Home Secretary said. But claiming the explosion in numbers directly after Brexit is a coincidence and does not reflect that those same gangs saw an opening caused by Brexit is naive. Or in your instance, dishonest. Just like your claim only to have been a Forum member for a few months. Edited October 3 by Alteredbhoy

"Ms Mahmood also dismissed suggestions that the end of a pre-Brexit deal to return migrants to the EU had played a part in the record rises in Channel crossings." This quote was made eight months ago! It speaks of record rises in boat crossings, which have been reversed under the new agreements with the French government. Regardless of the causes in lapses of border security, you seem to shy away from AB's reminder that Remainers warned that leaving the EU would make the UK more prone to terrorist attacks. Which would make you at least as dishonest as you claim AB to be.

It's the dishonesty of the far right posters who get banned repeatedly for posting appalling discriminatory nonsense, but then reappear under a different profile and continue their campaign of hatred while claiming not to be a previously banned member. They don't even have the humility to post on the other threads before posting on the OTF. They claim to join a stockings forum, simply to post hatred on the Off Topic Forum. They don't even try to hide their voice. It really is pathetic. Just as bad is rowlf, who constantly accuses everyone and anyone who disagrees with him of being the same person conspiring against him, but then studiously accepts all the returning banned members without comment, because their share in his prejudices. Notice that Jesus tells us it is the reviled who are blessed, not those who revile them; that it is the persecuted who are blessed, not the persecutors; that it is those who are falsely accused who are blessed, not those who falsely accuse! Jesus tells us that it is the migrants and the brave volunteers of the RNLI who receive God's blessing, not the people who hide behind hoodies and balaclavas, or behind their keyboards. Jesus tells us that it is the stricken and the do-gooders who help them who receive God's blessing, not the thugs who would see them all come to harm. I find it ironic that Lynn and John, like you LAN, falsely claims that the RNLI is providing a taxi service, because he fails to accept that the boats are in danger of sinking and the people in them of drowning, but at the same time is prone to end his post with a blessing! A hypocrite! Both you and he, and indeed all the right-wingnuts on the Ontario Topic Forum are people who would have persecuted the prophets in days gone by. You really do need to stop banging on about God, Jesus & Co. They are not here, there or anywhere. Be normal and continue with the reasonable responses you usually provide - that's all you need to do.

The numbers are subjective. Liz Truss was in power between 5th September and 24th October 2022. During her tenure as PM, 13 thousand migrants crossed the Channel. Burnham has been PM for 50% longer than Truss managed and predominantly during the height of summer, which is peak crossing time. They were crossing at nearly 1900 a week under Truss, so 678 in Burnhams worst week is a vast improvement. But you aren't interested in any improvement. Only in there being bad news for you to justify your opinions about small boat crossings. When there were 5 weeks with hardly any crossings between mid August and late September, you had nothing to say. But one worse week, even though it nowhere near matches what has gone in the recent past, and you are desperate to get in your snide complaint Edited October 3 by Alteredbhoy

Because you seem to know everything, get your calculator out and you tell us all here what that's going to cost the British taxpayer over, say, the next twelve months. This continual invasion may not bother you, but to me and most likely the majority of this country, it does.

It's a lie that you keep perpetrating. The numbers are coming down. We ought to be pleased they are coming down and praising the British and French Governments for their success and encouraging them to continue succeeding. It's strange that you are so fascinated by the number of migrants crossings. Every year in the UK about 30,000 people are seriously injured in motor accidents. That's more than have crossed the Channel in the last year. The cost to the UK economy is estimated at £15 billion per annum, many times more than the cost of dealing with illegal migration. Yet your concern isn't with injured or killed Britons and the huge cost it incurs. But every morning you get up hoping to splutter into your cornflakes about the number of migrants who crossed the Channel.

Yes I'm pleased that the numbers are coming down, but it's not enough by a long chalk. How many times do I need to reiterate that? We're talking illegal immigration here, not road accidents. Yes it would be wonderful if nobody was killed or injured in such a way, but what do we do, ban vehicles? Stop clinging to such desperate counter arguments - on top of all that day to day bad stuff, we don't need illegal immigrants added to it - simple as that. Ah, once again, trying to put words into my mouth that I haven't said. I have never advocated for the banning of vehicles, but here you are trying to suggest that is the implication of my words. Why are you so dishonest about my arguments? But here is the nub. You are prepared to accept the 2,000 deaths and 30,000 serious injuries on UK roads each year at a cost of £15 billion as simply a fact of life. There are estimated to be nearly a million sexual offences committed in the UK every year at a cost to the economy of £400 billion. I guess you must consider those to be just a fact of life too, because we don't hear you complaining about them, or criticising the Government over the numbers. But 25,000 migrants costing £4 billion and you suffer from apoplexy. You need to sort your priorities out. To show you that the problem of small boat arrivals in the UK is not as great as you would have people believe, I give you the following link to government statistics on the issue of immigration into the UK as of June 2026, the latest date for which official figures are available. Summary of latest statistics - GOV.UK Roughly 33,000 small boat arrivals, out of 86,000 people in total seeking asylum. roughly 40% in total. Where is your indignation over the other 60%? As I've pointed out before, a far bigger issue is the problem of people who have entered the UK legally, who overstay their visa conditions.
