Movie review: Paris Can Wait

4 posts in this topic

In the new film, Paris Can Wait, starring the sublime Diane Lane, there's a scene where her escort's car breaks down in the rural French countryside. Guess what the problem is? A broken fan belt. It's the old use-nylons-as-a-fan belt-substitute, a staple of handy home remedy handbooks. In the film, Diane tells the escort to turn her back and then bends down and whips off her pantyhose, deftly tying and attaching them to the appropriate motor parts. It's a great scene but one played only for movie convenience, or as they say in the trade, continuity. Someone like the modern woman Diane plays would probably never wear hose on a beautiful summer day. Sad but true.

Once tried using a stocking as a fan belt...it does not work...too slippery, i.e. not enough friction.

I think that would be worse...more holes....even less friction. Not really a lover of fishnets irrespective of were they are!!!
