Am I Losing The Plot?

28 posts in this topic

Just lately I seem to have gone off so called "fully fashioned stockings" at least affordable ones, not that I've bought any for anyone in years, but when I (rarely) see such worn they seem to me to look so false? at least one seam will be half way round the leg, the stockings/tights panel looks a thick denier and the usually point heels nothing like the real things and vanishing under the feet! (no disrespect to SHQ, I'm sure theirs do not fall into this category) So I am finding myself drawn to sightings  photos  of seam only stockings and tights (after years in the wilderness searching for any seams and heels ones for my late wife.} No doubt I'll be in the minority here, but I sometimes wonder why some ladies esp in the media have to advertise they are in sexy stockings? (and I bet alot aren't the latter as well!) I am beginning to think a plain seam only pair of stockings (or tights as they allow shorter tighter skirts for normal wear) can look just as attractive, and think the younger generation of girls (above 18 of course) would wear such more readily? Over to you! (puts tin hat on and sits in bunker waiting for the flak coming! lol)

I agree... My wife buys the new version (fake) ff stockings and tights.. They are very nice, but not the real thing.

I work with a lot of late teen/early,mid twenties and I must admit, the majority don't wear even tights let alone stockings when they go out. Unless it's fancy-dress.

I think the days of many women wearing tights and stockings are gone forever.

The place I work at has a very extensive range of tights/stockings and I am finding that the replenishment side is diminishing rapidly.

I do miss my teen years when all women wore skirts and stockings. My female family members would not have been seen dead in trousers.

I have my tin hat on now... ready for the people who say I am sexist.....

As I have said many times on this site Lady S only wears Gio FFN's all the time and would not think about wearing "fakes". I think myself very fortunate that she does!!! I also have my tin hat on.

Not sure what the best reply to this is but I'll take seams any day of the week, fake or real, over bare-legs or opaques.

And yes, whilst adornment in this day and age is very much in the minority, at least it's not extinct.

The good Ladies of this site and some of the Gurls do a fabulous job in keeping the fashion for which we have a passion alive and long may they do so.

What I can't understand, and currently my household is one of these, is winter/autumn = opaques, spring/summer = bare's.

Where's the sense in that.

Maybe I should get out more! or at least to better places? Am pleased with the replies, hope for us still! Did notice the replies (so far) were all from men but guess that's to be expected? SeamsFFun has got it right re us men (some) should appreciate how lucky we are to have (or did have) wives who wear real ff's? I know I did after my wife (then my girlfriend) turned up on a date having come on the bus on her own in black fully fashioned  point heel nylons, this was in mid 60's pre mini era stretch seamfree stocking days, This was totally her own choice, I was 19, she was 20, we had never talked re such, or had even mentioned them, did after that first time though! I often wondered, and still do, whether she and I, were lacking self confidence? and she kind of wanted to prove she was a sexy girl? ( and afterwards me sort of proving I must be special to get a woman thus! ( I wasn't lol) any way it seemed to work as were married 46 year till her sudden death. She was over the years been asked by  other women where she got her "tights" and on explaining things to them the general opinion was "oh I couldn't be bothered with suspenders" etc or when some hadn't noticed they were seamed, got similar remarks re keeping them straight, In the last 6 years, I have had similar responses or out and out remarks from female friends re old fashioned etc when in a jokey way I had said I had liking for such hence my post re seam only ones, happy to chat in pc if any questions

Yes I really do appreciate the way Lady S dresses...in Northallerton yesterday and a middle aged woman came up to Lady S and said "you look fantastic..it makes a very pleasant change to see a woman dressing as she should and so very elegant". We thanked her most profusely and actually she was quite well dressed in a skirt with tan hosiery. Yes you really must come and see us one day.

There are some of us who wear stockings on a daily basis, but for convenience  (and cost) wear cheaper store owned brands. My everyday stockings come from H&M or Kappahl. Not the best ever but cheap to replace when a run strikes. For work, I wear either stay ups (puts my own tin hat on) or stockings and a 6 strap belt.   For more glamourous occasions, then definitely ffn's or something finer and pricier.

I've never been into tights, not even for convenience. I've always found that I've been warm enough.

I enjoy the way they look on me, and the way they feel. I'm a little dismayed at the high cost of some lingerie suppliers, but realise that good quality costs money. I think stockings have gotten a bad press because of their association with the porn industry, but I think that they're glamourous and are much more preferable to tights.

Sorry for interrupting you gents, and thank you for your good manners.

Annabelle.

Why must people who feel kicked down in their life feel the need to perpetuate the bad feelings.

Such a shame they cannot break the cycle, accept advice or look for help.

I wear stockings every day. My preference is FF stockings, but I do wear seamless if I "have to" - LOL. I can't even imagine wearing fake FF's. My quick daily wears are National 400 and 900's, Hanes Walking Sheers, and Hanes Silk Reflections for the modern choice. I have many varieties of makers of hose, and I choose according to thickness and color. I would wear FFs every single day, but I don't want to ruin them. I'm careful, but runs still happen.

I don't see anyone in my every day life who wears any kind of hose at all - panty hose or otherwise. I'm pretty much alone in my stocking wearning.

I agree with one of the posters above that I wish that girls/women could see how much more put together they would look if they wore stockings or at least some kind of hose.

And SeamsFFun, to the winter/summer thing - in our house, winter means service weight and summer is the sheerest of sheers. I feel naked without stockings now, and I also have finally switched over to the dresses or skirts only brigade. I wore pants yesterday and couldn't wait to get home and change into a skirt!

It doesn't do any harm to dream, Seamsffun, but I doubt your wife would sanction that idea.

My husband and I often do War Weekend in Pickering and though I wear seamed stockings and like to call them Fully Fashioned, they aren't really. But the number of older ladies who enjoy and buy FFS are certainly in the majority, amongst their peers that is.

Not sure what it means to be a new member but since I've joined it's surprising what people have told me about the history of SHQ supposed stalwarts.

So not really a strange comment.

I guess affordable seamed stockings may not be the real fully fashioned seamed stockings but a gal has to accept what her income allows her to wear.  I doubt she would seek something inferior if she had the money and was a real stockings wearing woman.  By real I mean a woman that knows all about the stockings way of life.  She must become a hard core cast iron stockings girl/lady by compiling great knowledge after experiencing mistakes and learning from those mistakes.  This path must be trod else the real stockings lady will never become the real McCoy!  She would not allow her seams to twist around the side of her legs because she has learned what and what not to do to keep that from happening  A newbie or rookie may have that happen to her but it's only because she lacks experience.  Should she desire to learn by asking questions and seeking help she will make the "professional" grade over time.  And that takes years to understand about what makes things work.   There is math involved!  The understanding of a circle and it's geometry is a big help as is alignment and tension. It's all necessary!  One has to put in the school work to make the grade.  The best way to do that is by wearing stockings as often as possible and learn from the mistakes that will be made.  Accept that it will not happen overnight and one will make the grade!

I don't know much about bringing attention to myself on purpose.  That's kids stuff!  The only thing that brings is the birth of another fool.  You do it up right and you will never have to show off!

Hi Susan:

It's so nice to have you back and posting again!

You and I were lucky to be of an age where we grew up wearing gartered stockings. By the time we were in High School, we were stocking pros, as were most of the other girls.

I only wear seams for special occasions, but when I do, they are always vintage FFNs. For every day, I wear RH&Ts. I tried the imitation seamed stockings (with and without heel reinforcement) over the years but just didn't like them.

So good to have you on these forums too Karen. Between Susan and you I doubt there's a stocking issue you couldn't solve.

You two are what all Ladies should aspire too IMHO.

Great to hear from you once again and so great to hear how much you enjoy adorning.

Oh My Professor Hanes I'd love to attend one of your lectures and see you in action.

What a sheer delight that would be.

You are My appointed Queen of SHQ Susan and long may you reign and show others the right way to embrace The Art of Adornment.

Really? I’m the opposite. I would wear FFs every single day if I could. I feel like I don’t really have stockings on when I wear sheers/no seams.

i too, only wear vintage FFs. There is nothing like vintage nylon.

Hi:

I agree. I'd love to wear vintage FFNs every day, but I would soon deplete my supply of vintage! And I can't bring myself to spend what it takes to get new FFNs for everyday wear. I commute to work by train /walking and tend to ruin stockings easily.

I miss Hanes Silk reflections, although I didn't like that not all colors came in the reinforced toe style. National 900s are not the silkiest stockings around, but at least they have a reinforced heel and toe.

We lived near an outlet, and when they stopped making them, Mr DZ and I went to the outlet mall and bought alll they had in my size. I still have a good supply.

I agree about the 900s but they are durable!

Hi Susan:

I so enjoy comparing notes with you on our early years wearing stockings. The similarities always amaze me since we grew up separated by about 1000 miles with you in Chicago and me in Boston.

You are a dear friend!
