Striving for sartorial equality for all genders. Living my life to the full, wearing my clothes for myself.

"Don't hide yourself in regret, just love yourself and you're set,
You're on the right track, baby, you were born this way,
No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgendered life,
I'm on the right track, baby, I was born to survive."

It feels like months and months since we (my friend Carrie-Anne and I) decided that it would be fun to come to Manchester and Sparkle. We booked our hotel, and bought our tickets for the ball on Saturday, and then waited and waited and waited - would July never come?
Yes, it would and it did...we both decided to take Friday off work and travel as early as we could. First quandary - do I set off from home as if I was going to work and then stop the car to change or do I leave home as Michelle? No, that wasn't the first quandary...that happened earlier in the week - my daughter was coming to stay for a long weekend arriving on Thursday afternoon...she has never met Michelle and has often said she doesn't wish to. That meant I had to get out all my stuff and pack my case on Wednesday evening. Well I didn't get home until 10.30 pm and by the time I had finished it was almost 2 am and I had so much stuff...had to get a different case down on Thursday morning and repack before going off to work!!!! Outfits for Friday, Saturday and Sunday daytimes, outfits for Friday and Saturday evenings, spare outfits in case I changed my mind or in case the weather was bad or just in case.....five pair of shoes! (and size 11s take up a lot of space in a case!)
Anyway I got to Thursday evening and decided to tell them at home that I wasn't going into work so I would go straight from home - that meant dressing as Michelle straight away - yessss!!!!!! Or no when my daughter saw me...she didn't say a word about it - was this good? Or bad? Difficult to know... I was wearing my short denim skirt, nude stockings, ankle boots with kitten heels, and a Long Tall Sally striped top (sort of sailor style). Staggered to the car with my bulging case and headed off to collect my lovely friend and we were away by 10am - hardly early but TomTom said we'd be there by 2.15 - then there was Friday traffic and grotty weather and stopping for coffee and loos and lunch. By the time we parked it was well gone 4 pm but we were there, checked into our apartment hotel, greeted at reception by a lovely young man who wanted to know if we were going to Sparkle - they were one of the event sponsors and he would be at events over the weekend.
By then we had made contact with the other girls up from our SouthWest Girls Group in Exeter - eating at 7pm in Eden, followed by entertainment from the Burlesque Boys, amongst others....yes, we said, we'll be there - save us a couple of seats at the table please.
After a bit of recovery time we changed and headed out in the Manchester rain. My outfit was a lovely shortish purple satin skirt, purple shortsleeved knitted top, gorgeous Gio RHTs in a purple shade that went delightfully with the skirt, 3.5" heels and delicious silk bra, panties and slip from Ted Baker at Debenhams, also in a delicious purple shade.... Got to Eden on the stroke of 7 having been amazed at the number of girls as we walked along Canal Street - never seen so many!!!!! The evening was fun - good food, plenty of wine, excellent company and so many girls to admire and chat to and share the entertainment with. We were eventually thrown out of Eden at 2am because they wanted to shut so it was a slow walk back to our apartment and into bed around 2.30 - and I was still awake - shock horror!!!!
What a fab evening...enjoyed it hugely. If this is Sparkle I am definitely coming again!!!!!!
More to follow....bedtime now - still catching up on sleep I think!!!!

No sound from the bedroom (I was sleeping on the sofa in the living room of the apartment) so I took myself off for a leisurely shower and dressed while I waited for C-A to wake. Eventually we were both up and showered and dressed and headed off into town - C-A hates shopping - but she's a girl - don't all girls love shopping? This one certainly does but not C-A - aaaaaaggghhhh! But she did want to explore Primark...but I demanded breakfast first - fortunately there was a suitable cafe right by the door of said store. Food and coffee was immediately followed by my first ever shopping visit to Primark - and what an overwhelming one that is in Manchester - I remember when that was Lewis's Department Store - sold a bit better class of stuff in those days but I found a top and some stockings and C-A found about 10 items and we only paid about £30 in total...amazing! Hit Marks to try on and buy a new undergarment for the dress that C-A had given to me on Friday - no longer suited her shape she said!
Deliberated over corset type garments and eventually found a suitable one - staff happy to direct me to the ladies changing room to try on... - well done M&S. On to Boots, then needed to find some lunch. Back to the apartment to wait for C-A's friend Kat who was coming up by train. Once she was installed C-A and I headed off for Sackville Park (leaving Kat to sleep off her migraine). I had wimped out of heels for the day (that damn blister) and gone for strappy flat sandals with barely-there stockings, multi-coloured short summer skirt and light blue short sleeved top, BhS bra and pants in pale turquoise/blue and a little satin cami top in case I wasn't warm enough without a jacket...
Loads of girls down Canal Street and in the Park. Met some of our Exeter crowd, trawled around the stands, bought a new wig for myself (C-A tried one but declined to buy - but it looked amazing - big and pink), watched Miss Sparkle copmetition, listened to the acts on stage, consumed a little more alcohol in case levels had dropped too low after Friday night...and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience.
Back to the apartment to change for the Ball - got a bit late so saved our feet by getting a taxi. I had a choice of three outfits - eventually went for the dress C-A had given me - crocheted dress in a grey/green colour with plain lining - quite clingy so it needed that need underwear! - together with black Gio FFs, bright red faux crocodile skin shoes (LTS) and I felt very smart for the occasion. Meal was good - and lots and lots of girls to admire - and Kat's outrageous godmother to sit next to (she's a bit "forward" is our Lancashire lass!!!) After more burlesque entertainment we eventually head off to Eden and Crunch and points west (and east and south and north - sense of direction beginning to be a little awry thanks to the alcohol) and enjoy the general bonhomie of the Village on a busy Saturday night. I finally wimped out at around 2.30 and staggered with hurting feet back to Great Ancoats. Had an interesting encounter with a girl who had clearly had too much of something and wasn't happy walking up Oldham Street unescorted - I wonder if she ever did get home and what boyfriend said... Hit bed at 3, woke as it got light needing the toilet and was surprised to hear the apartment door open as I sat there...."hello" I said..Yes, it was C-A and Kat returning - gone 5am and they were now waiting for their pizza. I crashed and never heard the pizza arrive...am I really getting too old for late nights? Yes, I think I am!!!!!
And still Sunday to come (well, what's left of it!!!)
